It borders on Bohemia in the north-west, Moravia in the north, and Slovakia in the north-east, with the Morava River forming the border. Furthermore, within the territory of Austria, Lower Austria and Vienna, borders on Upper Austria in the west, Styria in the south, and Burgenland in the south-east. The Danube, one of Europe's major waterways, flows through the whole country from west to east. Lowlands prevail in the river’s surroundings and are typical also for the landscape along the Morava River. The north-east of lower Austria is formed mainly by uplands and lowlands, while highlands predominate in the north-west. In the south of Lower Austria, the Alps rise up, reaching the height over 2,000 m above sea level on the border with Styria. The federal state with the highest number of golf courses in Austria, from courses with world reputation to smaller rural courses.
